Excerpts: Apple Shifts President’s Title
- Michael H. Spindler, Apple Computer Inc.’s chief operating officer, has been named president. The appointment does not involve any changes in responsibilities but endorses Mr. Spindler’s leadership role.
- Mr. Spindler will continue to report to John Sculley, Apple’s chairman and chief executive who had also been president. Mr. Spindler was also nominated to Apple’s board.
- Mr. Spindler, who headed Apple’s European operations, was made chief operating officer in a top-level reorganization. He took over sales, marketing, manufacturing and corporate communications while Mr. Sculley focused on research and development.
